Cathedral Center, Inc.
The
Interfaith Conference assists the
Cathedral Center,
a homeless shelter for women and families, by providing volunteer
recruitment and coordination every night of the year. The Shelter
operated in churches for three winters beginning in 1997. After that for
three years the Shelter was located in a gymnasium at the Milwaukee
Rescue Mission, serving an average of 35 women each night. St. Francis
Parish then served as the temporary home of the shelter while awaiting a
complete renovation of the old convent at St. John’s Cathedral, which
became the permanent facility in 2004 at 845 N. Van Buren (at the corner
of Kilbourn Ave.)
Continuous needs at the shelter
The
response from congregations and individual volunteers to the needs at
the Cathedral Center has been tremendous. The Cathedral Center and
Interfaith Conference are very grateful for the generosity and kindness
that has been offered to the women and children who stay at the shelter.
Donations
can be taken directly to the shelter located at 845 N. Van Buren St.
between the hours of 8:00am - 7:00pm.
