Cathedral Center, Inc.
The
Interfaith Conference assisted the
Cathedral Center,
a homeless shelter for women and families, by providing volunteer
recruitment and coordination every night of the year until this spring.
The Cathedral Center is now staffing volunteers in-house. The Shelter
operated in churches for three winters beginning in 1997. After that for
three years the Shelter was located in a gymnasium at the Milwaukee
Rescue Mission, serving an average of 35 women each night. St. Francis
Parish then served as the temporary home of the shelter while awaiting a
complete renovation of the old convent at St. John’s Cathedral, which
became the permanent facility in 2004 at 845 N. Van Buren (at the corner
of Kilbourn Ave.) To
arrange a time to volunteer, call the Cathedral Center at 414-831-0394.
Ask to speak to Janet Peshek.
